Repair of the bridge deck floor with rapid-hardening and rapid-drying concrete Concretum® C-DRY
Before concreting at 9 pm
The first tram at 5 am
Initial Status
The main part of Bellevue Place is covering a cavity. Within the repair works of Quaibrücke and the tram tracks, the concrete paving has also been renewed. The damaged concrete has been removed and replaced by a new layer of concrete. To keep the interference of tram and individual traffic as low as possible, the repair works had to be done between Friday and Sunday night. This narrow construction program required the use of a rapid-hardening and rapid-drying concrete.
Solution and evaluation
To meet those demands, the rapid-hardening concrete Concretum® C-DRY was selected. The placement was carried out in the night from Friday to Saturday (September 5 – 6th). During the repair works the tram transportation service had to be completely stopped. Only 5 hours after placing the concrete, the crust of coating could be removed and a sealant could be applied. 4 hours later, a liquid synthetic sealant and eventually a protective mortar were applied. Two days after concreting, the compression strength already represented 32 N/mm² and the construction could be used again for the regular tram transport according to schedule. Using Concretum® C-DRY, the construction time could be reduced to an absolute minimum and this system has optimally proved of value for time-relevant concrete applications.
